AUDITION DATES:Thursday, May 14, 6pmSaturday, May 16, 11amat the Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts, 212 W Broad St, Hazleton PA 18201*Auditions will be held in the rehearsal studios in the theatre basement. Please enter the building at the rear stage doors on Mine Street and follow signs downstairs to the audition space.*All auditionees should arrive ON TIME on chosen date of auditions, as auditions will start with a 16-count group dance routine before individual vocal and reading auditions.
SHOW DATES:Friday, August 7 @ 7pmSaturday, August 8 @ 2pm (Sensory Friendly Performance) & @ 7pmSunday, August 9 @ 2pm Performances will also be held at the Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts, 212 W Broad St, Hazleton PA 18201 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: *Those participating will be provided with an audition form to complete upon entering the theatre. Please have a list of rehearsal conflicts that you are aware of between the dates of auditions and August 1st ready to be submitted. Please note that tech week rehearsals run from August 2nd to August 6th as well as the show dates require mandatory attendance.*Youth auditioning are encouraged to come in loose fitting, comfortable clothes for dance audition and should prepare 16-32 bars (approximately between :45 and 1:30) of a song from the show or in the style of the show and come with a karaoke track to sing along with on their phone. There will be no piano accompanist at the audition. In addition, youth will be asked to read from the script - audition sides can be found HERE.*If Audition Callbacks are necessary, auditionees will be contacted individually regarding dates and vocal requirements.
*VIDEO SUBMISSIONS of auditions will also be accepted until Friday, May 15th @ 11:59 PM. Parents of youth wishing to audition via video should email artisticdirector@ptpashows.org and an audition form questions will be sent back to be filled out. Upon completion of the form information, a video of the youth performing their vocal audition and indicated sides should be emailed back by the date above. SYNOPSIS: Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie JR. features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. With classic songs such as “Hard Knock Life” and “Tomorrow” as well as a heartwarming story, Annie Jr. is sure to delight all audiences! ROLES: *All roles are open and available* AnnieAnnie is a complex little girl. She is a tough, streetwise urchin who is nevertheless vulnerable when she thinks she might lose what has become most important to her: a newfound "family" who loves her. The actor who plays Annie must be strong vocally and musically. She must be capable of vocal projection without strain. She also needs a good understanding of subtext so she can act appropriately during the various scenes between Warbucks and Grace, and Miss Hannigan and Grace. Although she is at times aggressive or crafty, the audience should never doubt Annie is a friendly and caring child; she will go to any extent to gain the love of a family to which she can belong.Gender: FemaleVocal range top: E5Vocal range bottom: A3
WarbucksOliver Warbucks is middle-aged, self-assured, and confident businessman. At first awkwardly affectionate towards Annie, he soon finds himself completely charmed by her. He begins his transformation when he views "N.Y.C." through Annie's eyes and falls in love with the city again...and with her. His posture, walk and speech patterns are very important.Gender: MaleVocal range top: D5Vocal range bottom: A3
Miss HanniganThis woman is definitely a "has-been." Her distaste for her job and the children that are part of it should be obvious in every line she speaks, every song she sings and every move she makes. The actress who plays her must have an excellent sense of comic timing. The acrid delivery of her lines and the torch-like rendition of her songs must distinguish her from the other characters in the show.Gender: FemaleVocal range top: D5Vocal range bottom: G3
Grace FarrellGrace is mature, calm, cool and "together." She is classy and businesslike when dealing with Miss Hannigan and Warbucks, yet maternal toward Annie. Each dramatic situation should seem to come "under control" the moment she glides into a scene.Gender: FemaleVocal range top: D5Vocal range bottom: A3
RoosterRooster and Lily are quite the team -- "team" being the operative word, as the characters play off each other constantly. Rooster is flashy and self-assured. His "moves" are as smooth as a gambler's, as should be the message he sells in "Easy Street."Gender: MaleVocal range top: Eb5Vocal range bottom: Bb3
LilyRooster and Lily are quite the team -- "team" being the operative word, as the characters play off each other constantly. Lily (airhead that she is) is always distracted, although she manages to pick up on any conversation involving money. She never acts as the leader, always bringing up the rear while tripping over her own feet (it is difficult to walk and check your makeup in a compact at the same time).Gender: FemaleVocal range top: Eb5Vocal range bottom: Bb3
The OrphansMolly, Tessie, July, Duffy, Kate and Pepper. These girls are gritty, neglected and vulnerable, yet basically honest and potentially lovable. The actors portraying them must be able to have mischievous fun with each other as well as "sibling-style" fights. Each actress should be able to create and shape her own character. Bundles McCloskeyBundles is a kind, flirtatious laundry man who delivers clean sheets to the orphanage.Gender: Male

Dog CatcherA stern and serious worker who is clearing the New York streets of mutts.Gender: Any
Police WardLike the dog catcher, a stern and serious worker. The Police Ward returns Annie to the orphanage after finding her roaming around in Hooverville. Gender: Any
Star-To-BeA featured soloist in “N.Y.C.” Star-To-Be is astonished and overcome with excitement over her new start in the big apple.Gender: Female
Bert HealyBert is a popular radio personality. A very charismatic speaker with a huge influence over his listeners.Gender: Male
President FDRThe 32nd President of The United States and somewhat political rival of Warbucks. He helps in the search to locate Annie’s real parents, and he promises that everyone will have a much better life in the future.Gender: Male
Louis HoweFBI agent who helps Warbucks and Grace locate Annie’s real parents.
Servants (Drake, Mrs. Greer and Mrs. Pugh)From the moment these characters enter the acting area, their presence, posture and speech should suggest the most fastidious of domestic help.Their heads are always held high and they rarely show their emotions.Gender: AnyVocal range top: D5Vocal range bottom: A3
