SHOW DATES Friday, May 9 @ 7PMSaturday, May 10 @ 2pm *and* 7pmSunday, May 11 @ 2PM**PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE 2 SHOWS ON SATURDAY MAY 10TH - 4 SHOWS TOTAL** WORKSHOP INFORMATION From PTPA Youth Program Co-Director Tim Solarek: This is a voluntary workshop geared towards understanding both acting and performance techniques, as well as strategies on how to prepare for an audition. The workshop itself will be broken up into three separate segments. The first of these three segments will be conducted in a classroom setting. This will consist of not only a lecture presentation but also serve as an opportunity for students to ask questions and dive deeper into the psychology that comes along with the acting process. We will discuss different approaches to acting as well as furthering our understanding of character development. During this segment we will also look at ways in which to go about preparing for an audition. This part of the workshop will be an opportunity for students to develop a greater understanding of the theoretical concepts which accompany stage performance. It is highly encouraged for students to bring paper and writing utensils to take notes and not be afraid to engage with questions or personal thoughts on the acting process. The second part of the workshop will consist of a practical segment. During this segment, students will have the opportunity to take what we learned in the classroom and apply it to the stage. During this segment students will be taught a brief dance sequence and asked to read sides. These sides and dances will be from “Seussical the Musical.” The purpose of this segment is to make students familiar with the content of the show but also give them extra experience in an audition type setting. These two segments will make up the major portion of our workshop. The third and final segment will be “open time” for students. This is where a student can perform a song or monologue they may be considering for upcoming auditions. Students will not be judged or assessed as if it were their actual audition, but it will be an opportunity for students to receive notes and tips to help further develop their audition material. If a student does not want to sing or give a monologue, they may be excused after the second practical segment of the workshop. In all, this workshop is designed for students who would like to not only sharpen their acting skills but gain a deeper understanding of performing as well. This is not a mandatory workshop, and attendance will not impact any casting decisions in “Seussical.” As performers ourselves, our staff understands the importance that preparation plays in any production. We want to provide students with as many opportunities as we can to make them feel confident and comfortable in an audition setting. We hope this workshop will be another example of how we will always continue to “pursue perfection”. -Tim P.S. “TNLU!"
